Since you are paying for your own tests on the website and not through your health insurance, you can take as many tests as you want.  The only record of your tests will be with Quest Diagnostics and with us.  They will never be put into any electronic record except for Quest’s information system.

However, should you test positive for any one or more of the following we are obligated by law to report the result:

      • Hepatitis A

• Hepatitis B
• Hepatitis C
• HIV
• Chlamydia
• Gonorrhea
• Syphilis

In the event of a positive test we and the lab are obligated by law to report it to the Department of Health of your state of residence.  These are communicable diseases and are therefore reported.  The exact details of the reporting may vary between states.  The following link lists all reportable diseases.

Public health reporting mandated by law is not changed by HIPAA. In fact, HIPAA expressly permits protected health information (PHI) to be shared for specified public health purposes.

Should you test positive for any test, it is up to you to seek treatment from a licensed physician.

Truvada is a drug taken by people to lessen their chances of contracting HIV.  It is most often taken by people who are sexually active with HIV positive partners.

Truvada only LESSENS your chances of getting HIV.  Moreover, Truvada must be taken every day in order to help prevent HIV infection. People in clinic trials did this. But if that doesn’t happen in the real world, people who get infected while taking too few doses likely will end up with drug-resistant HIV infection that they can then spread to others.

Truvada is best taken by people who are in a committed relationship with someone infected with HIV.  It is not intended as a preventative means of catching HIV simply because you have multiple partners.
